An Unforgettable Vacation
The
kids are counting the last days of the school year. Graduations
have been celebrated and fall might as well be a whole
year away. It's time to take a break!
Whether
this summer will take you around the globe, or maybe down
the road to a park or beach, good times and good friends
are worth remembering. Create a journal to remember your
travels, or perhaps a sketch book where you can draw
or save photos, clippings and ideas.
To decorate
your journal choose
images that complement your plans. Affix them to a store-bought
notebook with paper craft glue or spray adhesive. Our example
in the top-right photo features a button closure that's easy
to add. Begin by sewing a button to the front cover. Punch
a hole in the back cover of your notebook and thread a loop
of elastic cord through. Adjust it to the proper length and
then tie the cord in a knot on both sides of the cover so
it doesn't slip out. If the cover is particularly thick,
try using a small drill bit with an electric drill to make
the necessary holes.
The spiral
journal in the bottom photo is adorned with a tiny bow, which
can be easily applied with hot glue. Be creative and choose
embellishments that remind you of your journeys. Perhaps
you'll pick up a piece of sea glass or press a flower between
the pages to dry. A particularly interesting matchbook cover
or sales receipt can even be a nice touch!
