Vintage Style Inspiration for Wearable Art
Vintage Touches – Modern Flair
Take something new, add something vintage, end up with something wonderful! Ordinary items can be transformed into “vintage style” with simple applications of images and embellishments. Think of the possibilities: T-shirts, jackets, hats, pockets, bib-overalls, baby’s layette, and children’s clothing!
Creating with vintage art is fun, fast and easy. Start by printing a beautiful piece of art on the printable fabric of your choice. Small tote bags and purses are a great way to use your "designer" fabrics. Cut collar and pocket pattern pieces from printed fabric when constructing a garment. Quilt blocks or pieced garments can incorporate any printed fabric image in traditional ways.
Printed fabric or paper images can be used to create unique adornments. Diminutive metal frames can encase a small image. Attached to a length of ribbon it makes a unique necklace or when backed with a pin an eye-catching brooch. Small fabric images can be cut into shapes, sewn to a fabric backing, and stuffed to make dimensional jewelry.
Don't forget about age-old decoupage. Adhere a fabric or paper image to just about any small surface and finish with several coats of decoupage medium (sand after each coat has dried). Attach to a pin or necklace.
